Summary:

Oxide zinc surge arresters are mainly composed of oxide zinc nonlinear resistor sheets. Under system operating voltage, they have a very high resistance and present an insulating state. When the overvoltage amplitude exceeds a certain range, they exhibit a low-resistance state, discharging the lightning current, and suppressing the residual voltage of the electrical equipment connected in parallel with the arrester below the insulation stability value of the equipment. After the harmful overvoltage diminishes, they quickly recover to a high-resistance insulating state, thus protecting the normal operation of the electrical equipment.

Oxidized zinc surge arresters, in addition to being used for overvoltage protection of general electrical equipment, are particularly effective for overvoltage protection of external compensation capacitors, vacuum switches, rotating motors, generator sets, and the neutral points of transformers. At the rated voltage, the current flowing through the oxidized zinc arrester valve plate is only below 10^-5A, equivalent to an insulator. Therefore, spark gaps are not needed to isolate the working voltage from the valve plate. When the voltage applied to the metal oxide zinc arrester exceeds a set value (trigger voltage), the valve plate 'conducts' and allows a large current to pass through the valve plate into the ground. At this time, the residual voltage will not exceed the withstand voltage of the protected equipment, achieving the protective purpose. Subsequently, when the applied voltage drops below the trigger voltage, the valve plate automatically terminates the 'conductive' state and returns to the insulating state. Therefore, the entire process does not involve the issue of arc burning and extinguishing.

Functional features:

1.Excellent protective characteristics. The core component of the metal oxide arrester, the zinc oxide resistor sheet, has excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics. Under normal operating voltage, only tens of microamperes of current pass through. When overvoltage intrudes, the arrester quickly responds, and the current passing through the resistor sheet rapidly increases, keeping the voltage across the arrester terminals at the residual voltage level, limiting the amplitude of the overvoltage, and releasing the energy of the overvoltage.

2.High current handling capacity. The current handling capacity of metal oxide surge arresters indicates their ability to absorb energy from various types of lightning overvoltages, switching overvoltages, and power frequency transient overvoltages. Indicators such as 4/10us, 2ms square wave current handling capacity, line discharge level, and energy absorption capacity all reach domestic leading levels;

3.Good power frequency withstand capability. In power systems, due to various reasons such as single-phase grounding, long-line capacitive effects, and load shedding, power frequency voltage may increase or transient overvoltages with higher amplitudes may occur. Therefore, surge arresters should have the ability to withstand a certain level of power frequency voltage increase for a specific period of time, which is the power frequency overvoltage endurance characteristic of surge arresters.

4.The arrester has good anti-contamination performance. The minimum creepage distance of the outer jacket used is: for Class II moderately contaminated areas, the creepage distance is 20mm/kV; for Class III heavily contaminated areas, the creepage distance is 25mm/kV; for Class IV extremely heavily contaminated areas, the creepage distance is 31mm/kV;

5.Unique pressure relief device. Metal oxide surge arresters at 35kV and above are equipped with pressure relief devices that can promptly discharge internal fault pressure.

6.Excellent sealing performance. The surge arrester uses high-quality silicone rubber with excellent aging resistance as the sealing material. Measures such as controlling the compression of the sealing ring and applying additional sealant are taken to ensure the product's sealability.
